How to Pick Your Pictures
Good quality photos are a must! Remember, you are presenting and selling yourself as a model and a quality person capable of succeeding. Selecting your pictures is a crucial step, and is not always that easy!
Key Picture Points:
- For the LO- GOGIRL? Contest provide one headshot.
- Send us good quality, CLEAR pictures, minimum size 4" x 6". (Industry standard size for photographs is 8" x 10".)
- Lighting is a very important part on a good pictures, lots of light is the best.
- For professional pictures:
- Before you shoot, interview the photographer and review their portfolio. Make sure that you are pleased with the quality of their work and that you feel at ease with them. This will help to create better photos!
- There are various styles of shooting. If a photographer's portfolio consists of weddings, nature, pets, etc. he probably isn't capable of capturing the best of you as a model, and may only be interested in your money.
- Avoid photographic outlets that sell you on a Hollywood Glam style makeover. Although this is a legitimate service, these photographs are impractical in the modeling industry.
- Shooting a standard role of film with a professional photographer should give you 36 pictures, and should cost around $100.00. Ask a lot of questions and understand exactly what you will be getting. An experienced industry professional may have their own method of pricing: by picture, by different poses, by the hour, in color or black and white, etc.
- A good photographer may charge a lot more than a $100.00. Experience = $$$.
- If cost is a concern, check with photography schools in your area. There may be an opportunity to exchange portfolios with student photographers. You can get quality photographs in exchange for helping the photographer build a business portfolio.
- Try, whenever possible to use a professional makeup artist and hairstylist for the shoot.
- Do Not Send: Polaroid's, high school year book pictures, photo booth pictures (2"x3"), etc.
- Good quality pictures do not have to be overpriced. It is not necessary to spend hundreds on a picture. Search the Internet. You may find a photographer, make up artist and/or hair stylist who are willing to help models taking their first steps for a low fee or even free.
